Part 3 :Can we save the Environment?

Yes,of course we can save the environment! The environment is the only place where we can live on,at least for now.Maybe as technology improves,we are able to live on other planets in the galaxy. For now, the earth is where we have to live on,thus we have to save the environment!Whether we can or cannot save the environment, depends on us.Of course,we can save the environment as long as all of us wants to.This process of cleaning up the Environment take up to thousands of years. However,if Human is able to carry on the process,we can carry on living on the Earth.Or else,we need to find a new planet to live on.

After doing research on the 15 topics,I realised the Environment is not healthy today. It is very very ill due to the pollution created by us,humans. How can we destory our home? From the 15 topics,I realised a few major problems that pose the biggest threat to the Environment and us.Global warming,Rivers and sea pollution, mining activites and E-wastes.Global warming is the heating up of the surface temperate of the Earth.Heat from the Earth is unable to escape and is trapped within the Earth. This will cause the ice bergs at the North and South poles to melt, and the sea level will rise.Pollution at the rivers and sea,is also a major problem. The river and sea is where we get our source of water and seafoods. If it is heavily polluted,we may get ill from drinking polluted water and seafood from polluted areas. Thus, there will be a huge change in the Human diets.Mining activites is also another major problem.Mining will resulted in the change of terrains around the mining area, produce sulphur dioxide and increase the level of iron and chemicals in rivers around it.E-waste is the last major problem,i had identified. As technology improve quickly, there is a need for us to replace our equipment every few years. This resulted in a huge increase of waste metal.Toxic gases are produced when these waste metal are burnt.

Now,the quesetion is how can we save the environment?Something needs to be done before our home is destory.Basically, everyone living on the Earth has a role to play. However,i think the governments and industries have the most important roles to play,in leading and trying to come up with the latest technology to tackle the problems with pollution.

I think the governments in the world can come together and pass the same laws to better protect the Environment from any harm.Such law, could be "Do not litter in the sea&rivers","Ban of products which can produce CFC","restricting the amount of mining activites" and many others.By following these strict laws, the citizens will be helping to save the Environment.Although this laws may seem to be common sense, some of us are still doing it.The governments also need to educate the public on the impacts if we carry on harming our Environment.

As for the industries,I think they need to be responsible and at the same time improve on the research and developments.Being responsible means they have to be responsible of the wastes they release to the Environment. They will have to filter the waste water before releasing to the drains, river and etc. They also have to control the emission of toxic gas release, such as sulphur dioxide. These toxic gas will cause acid rain, which is harmful to the Environment. The industries also needs to improve on their research and development.By doing that, our technology can improve even faster. As our technology improves, more products can be created to tackle the emission of toxic gas into the Environment and the cleaning of wastes before releasing to the Environment.New products can also be able to come up to tackle the mess created by years of pollution. These new products can even replace currect products such as,air-condition,which will greatly reduce the risk of global warming. One good example will be Singapore's NEWater,by using reverse omission,we are able to get clean and drinkable water from waste water.Hopefully,as technology improves we are able to clean up polluted rivers and turn them into clean rivers.

How can normal citizens like us help?Normal citizens like us,also play a useful roles. As most of us,are citizen, with our combined efforts we can save the Environment.I think before we can do anything,it is important for us to realise the impacts should we carry on to harm our Environment. We can help by simply following the 3Rs which are Recycle,Reduce,Reuse.I am sure almost everyone knows about these 3Rs,but just actually how many of us follow these? It is very simple to follow these 3Rs.For example,do not throw away ur used plastic bottles, they can be used to create flower pots.We can also cut down on the amount of paper usage.Use both sides of the paper, not just one!We can also use our own shopping bags and not use plastic bags provided by the stores. And also by following to the strict laws imposed on the government to save the Environment,is also a way which we can help.

Well, what will actually happen if we do no try or fail to save the Environment? The remaining years left for the Earth to survive is already quite low.If we still do not try or fail to do so,the remaining years will reduce greatly.Like what i had mention earlier on,we may need to move on to a whole new planet.A huge jump in technology is needed for us to do that. However, not any planet can do the job.We need to find a planet with resources.Although this idea may seems like a science friction story, this may happen if we fail to save the Environment.A lot of resources will be needed to fund this project.By the time, this project is complete,do we still have the resources to send every one of us to the new planet and start all over again? The research and development of the project will also take a lot of time.Maybe the Earth may not even exist, half way through the process of the project.

In conclusion, this assignment has helped me to further understand the "health condition" of the Earth is live in.The Earth is in a critical condition now,and only us can save it.I believe as long as all of us tried to save the Earth. The Earth can be saved, with our combined efforts. So,let start saving the Earth now!

Part 2 Can the Earth be saved?

Is the Earth worth saving?
Yes,of course the Earth is worth saving!

Why?
The Earth is our home. It is the only planet, where we can live.Maybe in the near future,as technology we are able to move on and stay at other planets.

What are the benefits of saving the earth?
By saving the Earth,we can save the future of mankind and save everyone living on the Earth.By saving the Earth, we can alway live longer since the level of pollution will go down greatly.Human can also be able to live longer on Earth before the resources are used up.This will give us a longer period for our technology for improve,to better reduce the pollution on Earth and maybe find a new planet for Human to live on.

What are the biggest threats to the environment?
1.Global Warming

-I think global warming is the biggest threat to the environment.Global warming will prevent heat to be released from the Earth. This will cause the sea level to rise.
2.Sea/RiversPollution

-Sea/River pollution can be due to river spill and litters being thrown into the sea/rivers.The sea/rivers is where we get our seafoods and water from.If the sea or rivers is seriously polluted, our source of water and seafoods will be affected.

3.Mining activites

-The mining activites wiped out forest and gives off sulphur dioxide.Sulphur dioxide will cause acid rains.Drinking water in the nearby area will have high iron and chemical level.Workers will also suffers from ill health

4.E-waste

Taken from http://www.soaphia.com
-As technology improves quickly, there is a need to constant upgrade our equipments. Thus the level of metal waste will increase. It is highly harmful when they are burnt.Toxic are released when they are burnt.

Can the Earth be saved?
Yes,the Earth can be saved!
What needs to be done?
Education! We have to start by teaching the children,as they will be the one looking after the Earth in the future. The world also needs to be educated on the impacts on pollution etc,and how we can save the Earth. There is only one Earth!
Who needs to do it?
Everyone needs to play a part to save our one and only Earth.
What will governments need to do?
I would say that the Governments play a important role in our attempt to save the Earth.Governments need to pass strict law to counter littering in the river/sea.Governments also needs to educate the country about saving the Earth.Governments can also restrict mining activites.Basically,Governments should pass law to better protect the Earth from any further damage.
What will citizens need to do?
The citizens need to stop littering in the river. They also can start by reducing the usage of plastic bags, use lesser air condition and CFC free products.CFC contribute to global warming.
What will industry need to do?
The industries can help by controlling the amount of global gases produced.Industries should not release unfiltered water to the rivers. The industries also need to come up with new technology that may reduce pollution or try to clean up the mess created by pollutions.
What will farmers need to do?
Farmers should reduce the usage of pesticides and usage of products which will produce CFC

There is no buffer zone between crops and neighbouring houses, and no law which farmers have to inform the neighbours. Thus, neighbours may walk into a newly sprayed field. However, they is no evidence of pesticides related to cancers.

I think a buffer zone should be set up and law should be passed,to better protect the health of the residents living near a crop field

Topic 6 Pesticides in a third of all our foods

Topic 6 Pesticides in a third of all our foods

Note Taken (points form)
1.One third of our food contains pesticides
2. Whether chemicals are harmful anot,is down to the dose

Conclusion
Though one third of our food contain pesticides, whether they are harmful anot depends on the dose of the chemicals. There are levels to ensure the foods are safe to consume.

I think government should do consistent check on the level of chemicals in the food.Once again, apart from pollution, what we eat will also affect us.

Lifes of those 500,000 Russians were greatly affected.Schools were closed and residents have to quene up in cold weather to collect water from lorries, for their daily lifes.

I think it is important for those responsible to be punished,so as to serve as a warning to others.I think oil company should deal with spills as fast as possible

Topic 2

Topic 2

Notes Taken(point forms)
1.Polluted water triggered off a series of events.
2.Pfisteria theory is able to provide explanation for the first six plagues
3.Pollution in the ancient Egypt triggered off the first six plagues
4.Volcano could be the causes the ten plagues.

Conclusion
There are a few reasons, which triggered off the ten plagues,as advised by experts.Polluted waters,Pfisteria theory, pollution in ancient Egypt and volcano eruption are the possible reasons.

Pfisteria theory is actually pollution from pig-waste,affecting the river. The volcanic theory is belived that a volcano erupted near Egypt and its effect is strong enough to affect it.

We are still affected by pollution, which happened many years ago. Some of the causes of the pollution are natural, while some are man-made.Though natural diasters are unavoidable,man-made pollution can be prevented or reduced.

Topic 1: Intentsive Agriculture

Topic 1: Intentsive Agriculture

Notes Taken (points form)
1.smaller farm,increasing number of pigs.
2.to meet the demand of meat rich diets.
3.Wastes produced is harmful to the environmet and human.

Conclusion
Farms are getting smaller, yet the pigs reared are increasing.According to experts, such agriculture is meet the high demand of meat rich diets, instead of the basis nutrition needs.

Such agriculture is not free from pollution.Huge amount of wastes can emit toxic gases, such as ammonia and hydrogen sulphide, which can cause harm to the human body. The nitrates can pollutes the water if they seep through the soil.

We,humans, while trying to meet ours demands, hurts the environment and ourself. The cost we are paying,is too high
